Surrey DPAC Scholarships

Scholarships:
Scholarships are based on academic merits. Students offered scholarships typically have exemplary leadership and community service combined with solid academic performance. Applicants may also want to share goals or future leadership visions.

Scholarship details:

  • Deadline is 11:59pm June 15th
  • Awarded on the 4th Wednesday of September (following school year)
  • 2 scholarship awards available: $500 each (12 months to claim, otherwise forfeited)

Eligibility requirements:

  • Currently a full-time student in Grade 12 at any Surrey Secondary School, in your final year, and a graduate of the current school year
  • Must have been a student in the Surrey School District for the last 4 years
  • Course standing of B+ or better in English 12 and 3 other Grade 12 academic courses (the grade for the equivalent Grade 11 academic subject will be used in each case where a Grade 12 course is in progress)
  • Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident status
  • Enrolled to start in September as a full-time student at an accredited post-secondary institution

Please gather the following requirements and submit as one PDF file:

  • Most recent report card
  • Letter of acceptance from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Letter of reference from a non-profit organization or group
  • One-page essay (500 words or less) that includes the following:
    • Your story: Current and past leadership, service, and accomplishments that demonstrate how your interactions with others have — and will continue to — contribute to your vision for a better community through one or more of the following values:
      • inclusivity and openness
      • community-minded interconnectivity
      • a curiosity that embraces new ideas and risks change
      • a sustainable approach to living
    • Your educational experience: Surrey DPAC’s mission is to promote public education, parent empowerment, and advocacy for the best education and support for our students. To better understand if our education system is adequate or if there is room for improvement, we ask that you share with us both the good and the bad about your educational experience. If you could change anything about it, what would that be?

Canada Learning Bond Project: $ for Education

10 Walmart gift cards worth $50 each will be drawn for those who attend the presentation and fill in a short survey after the event.

 

Are you missing out on free money for your children’s education? Surrey DPAC is hosting an info session about the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) and British Columbia Training and Educations Savings Grant (BCTESG).

The CLB offers up to $2,000 for children born Jan 1, 2004 or later, with a family household net income of $48,535 or less.

The BCTESG offers $1,200 for all children between 6 and 9 years old.
