Surrey DPAC believes parent support is about parents helping parents. This could be speaking out on behalf of your child, on behalf of your PAC or in support of another child or parent.
PACs and DPAC have a legislated role in the School Act to represent parents in the Surrey School District and may advise the board on any matter relating to education in the school district. By working together, we all get a better understanding of the challenges our children are facing and it allows us to gather the information needed to bring awareness to those challenges. By working together, we can make recommendations to Surrey School Board that can change the education system so that it works better for our children.
Wednesday, April 14, 2020, 3-7 pmSurrey DPAC would like to invite our PAC representatives to attend a 4-hour half-day Reconciliation Dialogue Workshop with Chief Robert Joseph on April 14. This will create a safe place to engage all peoples in Canada in dialogue that increases understanding of their shared history, and explores the meaning of reconciliation and respective on our role to play.
This workshop is modeled on an Indigenous circle process that creates a supportive and safe environment for meaningful dialogue and relationship building to occur. Together participants explore pathways to reconciliation and develop community-based and community-driven reconciliation action plans.
The workshop will offer a truly powerful and transformative experience, and create a solid foundation for building meaningful relationships between Indigenous peoples and all Canadians. More information is available at Reconciliation Canada.
This workshop is free to participants but is a cost to DPAC, so we ask that registrants commit to attend for the full session and share what you learn with your PAC. A limited number of spaces are available.
Are you missing out on free money for your children’s education? Surrey DPAC is hosting an info session about the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) and British Columbia Training and Educations Savings Grant (BCTESG).
The CLB offers up to $2,000 for children born Jan 1, 2004 or later, with a family household net income of $48,535 or less.
The BCTESG offers $1,200 for all children between 6 and 9 years old.
