Surrey DPAC Rally for Public Education

Join us at the Surrey Rally for Education on Saturday May 17, 2025 from 10-11am.

We will be starting the rally at the corner of 152 St & 101 Ave and ending at Minister Begg’s office (#201-15135 101 Avenue Surrey).

While at the rally, fill out a backpack tag and let the government know what your kid is missing in their education. We are using the image of backpacks to show what kids are missing when public education is underfunded. These empty backpacks represent the missing supports in our schools—education assistants, inclusive learning tools, up-to-date resources, and safe spaces to grow.

Bring your signs, your kids… use your voice to send a message to the BC Government that OUR KIDS CAN’T WAIT! FUND EDUCATION NOW!

Whether you are a parent, educator, support worker or a concerned member of the community – you are welcome to come join us at this rally!

We also invite those from our neighbouring districts to join us as well as this is NOT just a Surrey issue – funding is an issue across the province!

Here are some tips for making signs:

Simple is great! You can get posterboard from the dollar store.

  • Keep it short and bold:
    • “Empty Backpacks, Empty Promises”
    • “Our Kids Deserve Better”
    • “Fund the Supports They Deserve”
  • Use BIG letters, high contrast. Keep your message short (5-7 words per sign).
  • Stand back from your sign about 10 feet to see if it is readable
  • Use foam board or cardboard taped to sticks for durability
  • Invite kids to help decorate!

Canada Learning Bond Project: $ for Education

10 Walmart gift cards worth $50 each will be drawn for those who attend the presentation and fill in a short survey after the event.

Are you missing out on free money for your children’s education? Surrey DPAC is hosting an info session about the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) and British Columbia Training and Educations Savings Grant (BCTESG).

The CLB offers up to $2,000 for children born Jan 1, 2004 or later, with a family household net income of $48,535 or less.

The BCTESG offers $1,200 for all children between 6 and 9 years old.
